When I occasionally venture out from my garden studio and get to meet people at shows, the first thing they ask me is ‘Why Cows?’ Well, it all began with a camping trip run by my youth club when I was seventeen to Sibbington, Cambridgshire. We camped next to a field of cows who, whenever I came onto the site, came up to the fence to see me. My love affair with cows was born and now over 20 years later is even stronger than it has ever been.
I moved to Cornwall in 1995, opening a ceramic studio in Liskeard in 2001. I began an art and design course to support my ceramic work, and from my love of all things bovine I developed these cow portraits. They sold out when first exhibited in 2003 and it was shortly after that I decided to close the studio and concentrate on my painting. I now paint full-time in my studio in Dobwalls.
